Blue Hawaiian Jello Shot FAQs

Can I make these with pineapple jello instead of berry blue?

Yes! The berry blue jell-o is easiest for having the blue jello shots, but they aren’t the closest to the classic Blue Hawaiian flavors. You can absolutely use pineapple jello mix. The blue curacao that the recipe calls for won’t be enough to make these super blue, but you could easily add a couple of drops of food coloring. The berry blue is still delicious, and we get all of the yummy tropical flavors, so it is totally up to you.

I don’t have coconut rum on hand, can I use white rum?

Absolutely! You don’t have to use coconut rum, any rum will be delicious. It adds a bit of the coconut flavor to these shots that you’d get from the cream of coconut in the classic cocktail, but use whatever you have on hand!

How do I store leftover jello shots?

For these, once they’ve had whipped cream, a small piece of fresh pineapple, and a cherry added, they should probably be used up, but if you haven’t garnished them, you can pop the little lids on and store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Where can I buy the plastic containers?

We get our 2 and 3 ounce plastic shot cups from Amazon! I’ve also found the 2 ounce cups we used for this recipe in our local Walmart!

These delicious Blue Hawaiian Jello Shots are the perfect way to celebrate Summer. We love a simple recipe, and this easy recipe has all of the yummy flavors of the islands. Whip these up for a fun addition to your backyard barbecue, neighborhood block party, or whatever adult gathering you find yourself attending this year.
