Substitutions & Tips:

  • If you prefer, you can use a flavored vodka or rum, like Malibu rum (or other coconut rum) or blue raspberry vodka. Or, any neutral flavored liquor like white rum will also work great!
  • This gummy shark jello shot idea is perfect for Shark Week or a beach party!
  • If you prefer a blue raspberry flavor to that of the ocean water gelatin, you can swap it for the Berry Blue jello flavor.

What can I put in jello shots so they don’t stick?

You can lightly spritz your jello shot cups with non-stick spray, if desired, but if you use the smaller 2 ounce plastic cups, this shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Will my jello shots not solidify if I add too much liquor?

Yes! While it can be tempting to add extra liquor to these shots, you need to stick to the water/liquor ratios we recommend to ensure that your jell-o shots set up properly.

How to make Shark Bite Jello Shots or Shark Attack Jello Shots

  • Alter this recipe, by filling the cups 2/3 full.
  • Add a red jello layer using a 3 ounce box of cherry or strawberry jello and 1 cup boiling water, and then 1/2 cup cold water, and 1/2 cup vodka.
  • Finish filling the cups with the red jello layer for a fun “shark attack” theme.
  • Garnish with whipped cream and gummy sharks.
