Tips & FAQs

  • You can find these disposable cups at your local Walmart (or other grocery store) or on Amazon!
  • You can use any blue jello flavor for these shots- think ocean water jello or starburst blue raspberry jello!
  • You can swap the cup of rum for a cup of vodka if you prefer! You could also use yummy coconut rum as another good alternative.
  • You can swap the alcohol for more water to make non-alcoholic jello shots.

What is the best alcohol to put in jello shots?

Any clear alcohol is great, think rum, vodka, tequila, etc… unflavored is probably best for most recipes, so that the other ingredients can shine, but we’ve made lots of jello shots with flavored vodka, like our peach jello shots with Aboslut Apeach vodka, and our watermelon jello shots with watermelon vodka.

How long before an event should you make jello shots?

I’d make them the morning before for an evening event or maybe even the night before if you have an event earlier in the day. They do take time to set, so give yourself a buffer to make all of the jello shots you need.

How do you serve jello shots at a party?

The best way to serve jello shots at a party is in disposable jello shot cups. Glass shot glasses make jello shots pretty hard to eat sometimes, so stick with the disposable so that they’re easier to enjoy and clean up is easier, too!

Do you cover jello shots before refrigerating?

For best results, yes. Some of the larger jello shot cups don’t come with lids, in which case I’d throw a piece of plastic wrap over all of the shots, but these two ounce cups do come with lids for easy storing in the fridge, and easy stacking at your party!

Does it matter what alcohol you put in jello shots?

Yes! If you put too much, the jello shots won’t set, we stick to 1 cup for two boxes of jello or 1/2 cup for 1 box of jello, or about 1/4 of the liquid in the shots as alcohol.

Do I need to let the jello cool before adding alcohol to jello shots?

It’s not necessary for them to cool. You just don’t want to add alcohol to the boiling water, but once you’ve whisked in the jello mix and cold water it is just fine to go ahead and stir in the alcohol.

Make up some of these ultra fun pool party jello shots for your next Summer party. Jello shots are always a fun sweet treat and a great way to get the party started. Your party guests will surely be talking about the adorable gummy bears and how creative these shots are. The best part is that they are seriously so easy to make.
