Margarita Jello Shots
I’m so excited to share these yummy Margarita Jello Shots with margarita mix. We took inspiration from these from the classic lime margarita, and kept things super easy by using a margarita mix in the recipe. They’re so fun for your next party, and the best part- no squeezing limes! Let’s talk about how to make this margarita jello shot recipe!
How to Make Margarita Jello Shots with Margarita Mix
This is such an easy recipe. To make these, you’ll need your favorite margarita mix, tequila, and a few other ingredients. Here’s the full list-
Ingredients
- 4 envelopes knox gelatin
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 1/2 cups margarita mix
- 1 cup of tequila- we used a silver tequila but feel free to use gold tequila or whatever you prefer
- Coarse salt for rimming the cups, or margarita salt if you have it
- Fresh limes for garnish
- 2 oz. plastic cups
Knox is pretty much the standard when we aren’t using actual Jello for our jello shots. We used Mr. & Mrs. T’s margarita mix, but again use whatever mix you love. For the tequila, we have been using Olmeca Altos tequila lately, it is a great tequila that is easy on the wallet. More expensive tequilas provide a smoother tequila experience, but we are always advocates of using whatever you have on hand.
Directions
Don’t forget the salted rim! To rim the jello shot cups, add salt to a shallow saucer or small plate in an even layer. Rim the plastic shot glasses with lime juice, then dip into the salt. If you prefer, you can also swap salt for sugar in this step! Repeat for all of the cups, then place them into a cookie sheet, rimmed baking sheet, or muffin tin for easy moving to the refrigerator.
- In a medium sauce pan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and slowly whisk in 4 envelopes of knox gelatin, whisking until dissolved.
- Add margarita mix and tequila, whisk to combine.
3. Pour the jello mixture evenly into 2 oz. jello shot cups. We use a large measuring cup with a spout!
4. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
5. Garnish with a fresh lime slice or wedge.
6. Keep chilled until ready to serve!
I hope you enjoyed this easy, delicious lime margarita jello shots recipe! They’re the perfect treat for celebrating Cinco De Mayo, or any time you are craving a margarita but prefer it in jello form! Jello shots are so much fun for pool parties. These are such a fun take on a classic cocktail, and it doesn’t get any easier than this simple recipe.
Margarita Mix Jello Shots FAQs
Do I need to use triple sec?
If we weren’t using a premade margarita mix, I’d say yes, but the mix really does all of the heavy lifting in this recipe and triple sec isn’t necessary. We also don’t use any cold water for this jello shot recipe, we maximize the flavor by using the mix to make the jello!
Could I use lime jello?
You could use a box of lime jello, but I find that the lime jello flavor doesn’t really make me think of margaritas. We much prefer to use the unflavored gelatin mixed with our favorite margarita mix to stay true to those lime flavors. It definitely lends these jello shots that classic margarita flavor.
