The story behind the creation of the very first daiquiri is that the daiquiri was created in Daiquiri, Cuba when a mining engineer was wanting to entertain guests, but was running low on gin, which was popular at the time. He decided to use local ingredients to make his Daiquiri and ended up with white rum, lime juice, and sugar, served over crushed ice. The Daiquiri gained popularity and lots of variations were born- like the Strawberry Daiquiri.

Substitutions & Tips:

  • You can opt to use fresh pineapple juice, but you’ll need to add a bit of simple syrup. If you are using store bought pineapple juice like we did, it offers plenty of sweetness.
  • You can use any rum you have on hand if you don’t have any regular rum- spiced, coconut, etc will all be delicious.
  • You can serve this in any cocktail glass you like.
  • A fresh pineapple chunk, lime wedges or slices, and even fresh pineapple fronds make great garnishes for a touch of visual appeal.
