Baileys Hot Chocolate Recipe

We took a classic hot chocolate drink and included a generous shot of Baileys for a next level hot cocktail to enjoy in the winter months. It has simple ingredients that we’ll whip up right on the stove top. I did include a crock pot scenario for you down in the FAQs as well.

Baileys Hot Chocolate Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp. Cocoa powder
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp. Sugar
  • ¼ cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 ounces baileys original irish cream
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Chocolate sauce for topping

You can of course use any of your favorite toppings for hot chocolate. Mini marshmallows, chocolate shavings, chocolate curls, and caramel sauce are all yummy options.

Directions:

Step 1: To a medium sauce pan, add milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips.

Step 2: Heat over medium heat, until chocolate is melted and the mixture is steamy, but be careful not to boil.

Step 3: Remove from the heat and stir in Baileys.

Baileys Hot Chocolate Recipe

This is seriously the best spiked hot chocolate, and such a great way to enjoy the creamy flavor of Bailey’s in your homemade hot chocolate. We get a lot of questions about our boozy hot chocolates this time of year, so here are some questions we know you will have-

FAQs-

Does Bailey’s Irish Cream curdle in hot drinks? It does not curdle, unless mixed with something acidic. With that said, the method we use of adding the Baileys after we remove the hot chocolate from the heat is the best way to add it to something hot.

Can I make this in the slow cooker? Yes! Just double this recipe (or triple) and combine the ingredients (minus the Baileys) in your crock pot. Cook on low for 1-2 hours until steamy and chocolate is melted. Add Baileys just before serving.

Can I use milk chocolate chips? Yes! It will be a little richer than with the semi-sweet but still delicious!

Can I add Irish whiskey to this? You can! Check out our Irish Hot Chocolate recipe that includes Irish cream AND Irish whiskey!

Can I use a non-dairy milk? Yes! Swap the milk in this for whatever milk you prefer. Coconut milk and almond milk are both great options.
