These are one of the yummiest jello shots we’ve ever made. Jello is good, but Jello + pudding is even better. These are so easy to make, and we added a little whipped cream vodka for a sweet kick to these jello shots! Let’s talk about how to make your own strawberry shortcake jello shots. We have a few strawberry jello shot recipes on this blog, but this one may be the best.

Strawberry Shortcake Jello Shots

Strawberry Shortcake Jello Shot Ingredients

Strawberry Shortcake Jello Shots
  • 2 (3.4 oz) boxes of vanilla instant pudding
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box of strawberry jello mix
  • 1 cup whip cream flavored vodka, divided (we used Pinnacle)
  • 3.5 cups milk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup cold water
  • 10 Nilla wafers, crushed, for topping (optional, we skipped these but they help add to the cakey-ness)
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Fresh strawberries for topping
  • 12 (3 oz.) plastic jello shot cups

I mentioned that these are the best jello shots we’ve probably ever made, it is something about the sweet strawberry jello mixed with the vanilla pudding, it is so good and the contrasting textures oddly go together.

We used Pinnacle Whipped Vodka in this recipe, because this whipped vodka really does a great job of masking that vodka flavor and adding to the cake-like flavors we are going for here. If you can find it, cake flavored vodka would also work great in this recipe, but we love the whipped because it is versatile and can be used in a lot of different drinks! This recipe really combines the best of both jello shots and pudding shots in one. These sure are some fun jello shots.

How to Make Strawberry Shortcake Jello Shots

Make these in a few simple steps.

1. Start by adding your jello shot cups to a shallow baking sheet, like a rimmed cookie sheet, this makes them stable and easy to move back and forth from the refrigerator.

2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together vanilla pudding mixes, 3.5 cups milk and ½ cup vodka.

3. Pour the pudding mix into your jello shot cups, filling them about ⅔ full.

4. Move to the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour.

5. After chilling, start the strawberry layer. Bring 1 cup water to a boil in a medium sauce pan over medium heat.

6. Remove from the heat and whisk in strawberry jello.

7. Add ½ cup of cold water and ½ cup of vodka, and whisk again.

8. Set the jello aside to cool completely to room temperature. This is important so that the warm jello top layer doesn’t melt the pudding layer.

9. Once completely cooled, fill the cups the rest of the way with the jello mixture.

10. Move to the refrigerator and chill for 3 more hours.

11. Once jello is set, you are ready to serve. Before serving, top with whipped cream, and place strawberries on top! For our garnish, we chopped off the tips of the strawberries and sliced them in half. Or, you can top off with a whole strawberry or any cut strawberries you like.

Jello Shot FAQs

Can I make these in glass shot cups?

Small shot glasses can make eating jello shots kind of difficult. Plastic ones are much easier, you can kind of squeeze the jello shots out of the cup, which is handy when it comes to eating them! There are many different size plastic cups you can get, but we specifically used 3 oz. cups.

How long are these strawberry shortcake jello shots good for in the refrigerator?

Since these shots have pudding, they’re not great quite as long in the refrigerator. I’d say that these should be eaten within 24 hours. If not serving right away, you should wait until time to serve to add the garnishes and keep them fresh.

What is the best vodka to use?

We used Pinnacle whipped cream vodka, any brand would be great, and also cake vodka or strawberry vodka would be a great flavor for this recipe, too! Don’t have any of those? Regular vodka is just fine. Either way you will end up with a great tasting jello shot.
