Spicy Margarita Recipe
We love a good margarita, and this Spicy Margarita recipe takes a classic margarita recipe and gives it a touch of heat with fresh jalapenos. These are perfect for Cinco De Mayo, or Taco Tuesday, whichever! This cocktail uses fresh ingredients- no mixes here. We did a spicy salt rim with Tajin chili lime seasoning, too.
Why we love this recipe-
- This is a simple recipe that makes fresh margaritas full of spicy jalapeño flavor. They are perfect for your next happy hour.
- While store-bought mix can be great, these are made with fresh ingredients to get that perfect balance of flavors.
- The spicy heat from the fresh peppers is so much fun, and takes our regular margaritas to the next level.
Spicy Margarita Ingredients:
- 2 ounces silver tequila (or blanco tequila)
- 1 ounce triple sec, or other orange liqueur
- 3 ounces fresh lime juice
- 2 cups ice cubes
- Extra fresh limes, sliced, for garnish
- 1/2 ounce agave syrup or simple syrup
- Chili lime seasoning (we love Tajin seasoning)
- 1 fresh jalapeño pepper, sliced
- Equipment needed:
- A cocktail shaker
- A rocks glass or margarita glass
- A saucer for the rimming salt
Directions:
Step 1: Add 2-3 jalapeno slices and 1 oz lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Muddle the jalapeno.
Step 2: Add ice, tequila, triple sec, sweetener, and remaining lime juice.
Step 3: Shake well to combine and chill.
Step 4: Add a shallow layer of the chili lime seasoning to a small plate.
Step 5: Rum a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, and dip into the seasoning.
Step 6: Add fresh ice to the glass.
Step 7: Place 3-4 extra jalapeño slices into the glass.
Step 8: Pour the margarita, strained, into the glass, and discard the muddled jalapenos.
Step 9: Garnish with a lime wheel.
Tips & Tricks:
- For less spice, skip muddling the jalapeno slices and only use the garnish for just a little heat.
- You can use regular salt on the rim of the glass instead of a Tajin rim, if you prefer a regular salted rim, or you could try sugar!
- For the sweetener, start with 1/2 ounce of agave or simple syrup. You can skip that, if you don’t want sweetness to your margarita, or use a little more- whatever is your personal preference.
- You can also de-seed the jalapenos to get rid of a bit of the spice, as well. The garnish doesn’t add a ton of spice, most of it will come from the jalapenos that we muddle.
- Any kind of tequila that you love will work great for these.
How to make a big batch of these Spicy Margaritas-
Step 1: Slice two jalapenos and muddle in a couple ounces of lime juice.
Step 2: In a large pitcher stir together 1 1/2 cups of tequila, 3/4 cup of triple sec, 2 1/4 cups of lime juice, and 3 ounces of agave or simple syrup. Fill your cocktail glasses with ice, and pour the margarita mixture over the ice. This makes 6 margaritas. Garnish with a fresh slice of lime in each glass and a couple of extra jalapeno slices.
