  • It is perfect for the Fall season, and can be used in hot chocolate or coffee recipes, in cocktails, on top of ice cream, or even over pancakes or waffles! Think pumpkin pancakes or French toast- delicious!
  • It is so easy to make your own homemade pumpkin syrup there’s no reason not to make some of this up.

Pumpkin Syrup Ingredients

  • ½ cup real pumpkin puree (make sure to use pumpkin purée and not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ tsp. Vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • 1 tsp. Pumpkin pie spice

Pumpkin Syrup Directions

Step 1: In a small saucepan whisk together pumpkin puree, sugar, vanilla, water, and pumpkin pie spice.

Step 2: Heat over medium heat until it comes to a simmer, then simmer for about 15 minutes. You want to be sure the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 3: Remove from the heat and allow to cool to room temperature. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one week. We use a glass jar, like a mason jar or other jar made for sauces or syrups that can be sealed.

Substitutions & Tips

  • If this syrup is too grainy for you, run the final mixture through a fine mesh strainer before storing in your final storage container.
  • Feel free to add additional spices if you prefer, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and cinnamon are both great ideas to boost the pumpkin pie spice seasoning.
  • For a bit of a different flavor, opt to do half granulated sugar and half dark brown sugar.
  • You can make a thicker syrup by continuing to reduce the syrup down. It will also thicken when it is refrigerated but will thin some when it is reheated or stirred into your recipe.
