Is Jalapeno Simple Syrup a spicy syrup or a sweet syrup?
It’s both! This syrup will add the sweetness you need to your cocktail, with also a little kick of heat from the jalapeno peppers.
Jalapeño Simple Syrup Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 fresh jalapeño peppers, sliced
Directions:
Step 1: To a medium saucepan, add water, sugar, and jalapeño slices.
Step 2: Heat over medium-high heat to boiling.
Step 3: Reduce the heat just slightly and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
The syrup should be a little thicker than when you started, if not, keep reducing it down for a bit.
Step 4: Allow the jalapeno syrup to cool to room temperature, and store for up to a week.
You can store this recipe as is in an airtight container- think a mason jar or something similar, or, you can run the syrup through a fine mesh sieve first to filter out the fresh jalapeños. The longer the jalapenos sit in the syrup, the spicier it will be.
Tips & Tricks:
- Make even more of this spicy simple syrup recipe in one go by combining a 1 to 1 ratio of sugar and water- use equal parts water and sugar, and 1-2 jalapenos per cup of sugar you use.
- This larger amount of syrup is perfect if you are serving several spicy drinks, or if you are making a pitcher of drinks to serve, as well.
- For less spice in your syrup, just add less jalapeno slices. Use 1 jalapeno instead of 2, or even a half of one to adjust the heat for a more milder syrup.
- This sweet syrup also brings the sweetness to your drinks, so it is perfect for tangy margaritas like a classic lime margarita. Spicy and sweet all in one.
It is so easy and fun to make your own simple syrup. It is especially cost effective if you need a lot, and it is so simple to make, anyone can do it. Spice lovers will love the extra heat that this syrup can add to all of your favorite cocktails.
