Halloween Sangria recipe

Here are the ingredients you need to make this spooky sangria-

Halloween Sangria Ingredients:

  • 1 (750 ml.) bottle of red wine, chilled
  • 2 cups sparkling apple cider, chilled
  • 1 cup cranberry juice, chilled
  • 3 navel oranges, sliced into orange slices
  • 4 red apples, sliced (we used gala)
  • 1 1/2 cups blackberries
  • 2 cups ice

The red wine and cranberry juice make this an almost black sangria. It is perfect for Fall and a spooktacular addition to your Halloween parties. For our red wine we used Cupcake Red Velvet, which has flavors of mocha, blackberry, and chocolate. It is a silky red blend with notes of vanilla and toasted oak. I felt like it was the perfect addition to our sangria, and it really is the star. If you don’t have this wine available you can always use a good Pinot Noir red wine, as well.

Here’s how to make this spooky Halloween sangria-

Step 1: In a large pitcher, combine ice, red wine, apple cider, cranberry juice, 2 navel oranges, sliced, 3 red apples, sliced, and 1 cup of blackberries.

Step 2: Keep the rest of the fruit chilled and ready for garnish.

Step 3: Stir well, and keep the sangria refrigerated until ready to enjoy or serve, up to two days in an airtight container.

Substitutions:

Juice- You can use any fruit juices you prefer with a red wine base for this recipe. Orange juice would be delicious, and you could opt for apple juice over apple cider, as well.

Fruit- Any fresh fruit would be delicious- black grapes or black plums, any dark fruit would keep with the spooky sangria theme. For an extra cold sangria, freeze the fruit ahead of time and add frozen fruit to your pitcher.

Alcohol- any dark wine will go great for the spooky vibes, think pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon. If you don’t love red wine, you can use a different kind of wine but you will lose some of your dark color. A good white wine would be yummy, such as sauvignon blanc, or pinot grigio, but you’ll get a bright red sangria.

Sweet Sangria- If you find your sangria lacks sweetness you are looking for, you can add brown sugar, 1/4 cup at a time until it is as sweet as you like. Sweet red wines and white wines would be delicious, too, but they may get pretty sweet combined with the fruit juices.
