Orange Creamsicle Vodka Drink
I am so excited to share our Orange Creamsicle vodka drink! If you are a dreamsicle or creamsicle fan, this cocktail is perfect for you! This cocktail is the perfect combination of whipped cream vodka, creamy cream of coconut, and orange juice.
Dreamsicle Vs. Creamsicle
If you find yourself wondering, what is the difference between an Orange Dreamsicle and an Orange Creamsicle, I’m going to tell you!
First, you need to know that the orange sherbet/ vanilla ice cream combination popsicle you find today is, in fact, a Creamsicle. Basically, a creamsicle is made with orange sherbet and ice cream, hence, the creamsicle. Then, a dreamsicle is made with orange sherbet and ice milk. Ice milk, is basically a lower fat ice cream. In the 90’s, the Food and Drug Administration allowed for ice milk to be rebranded as “low-fat ice cream” which is why you don’t see ice milk regularly today. So, basically, there is only a smidge of difference, so we will not stress specifics for this yummy drink.
To make our Orange Creamsicle cocktail, we opted for cream of coconut to get the creaminess without any dairy ingredients. I know that some people like dairy in their cocktails, but I wanted this cocktail to not necessarily have heavy dairy on top of the orange juice. Either way, this cocktail is perfect for hot Summer days.
Here’s what you’ll need to make it-
Orange Dreamsicle Cocktail Ingredients
- Ice
- 4 oz. orange juice
- 1.5 oz. whipped cream vodka
- .5 oz. cream of coconut
- Whipped cream for topping
- Orange slices, wheels, or wedges for garnish
Hint: Fresh Orange Juice is amazing in this orange creamsicle vodka drink! But, you can use any store bought OJ, as well, your drink will have just a bit more sweetness than if you used fresh.
Substitution Ideas-
Vodka- You can use regular vodka, or vanilla vodka, whatever you have on hand. This is a pretty sweet cocktail, so it is just fine with plain old unflavored vodka. You could even opt for rum and use a white rum in this drink.
Orange Juice- Don’t want to use Orange Juice in this drink? Use chilled orange soda pop!
Cream of Coconut- Want to bring the ice cream component into this drink? Sub the cream of coconut for a scoop of vanilla ice cream! If you do the orange soda with this, you’ve made a boozy creamsicle float!
Non-alcoholic- Want to make this without alcohol? Easy! Just omit the vodka.
Here’s how to make your own delicious orange creamsicle cocktail-
Step 1: To a cocktail shaker, add a handful of ice cubes, orange juice, whipped cream vodka, and cream of coconut.
Step 2: Shake well until mixed and chilled.
Step 3: Add ice to your cocktail glass, then pour the drink over your ice.
Step 4: Top with whipped topping and a fresh orange slice for garnish.
This is such a great recipe, the perfect frozen treat for warm Summer nights. We had so much fun making an adult version of an orange creamsicle drink. It has such a fun bright orange color that really takes us down memory lane for chasing down the ice cream truck for a creamy orange popsicle, the original creamsicle, or those fun little push-up pops. This delicious cocktail is such a fun adult twist.
