They’re so easy to make, you’ll just need a few ingredients so let’s talk about how to make this fun patriotic cupcake recipe.
This recipe is super simple, using a boxed white cake mix. It doesn’t get easier than that. Plus, red and blue jello, your favorite frosting, and patriotic sprinkles! Here’s the full ingredient list-
4th of July Poke Cupcake Ingredients
- 1 box white cake mix + ingredients on the back of the box
- 1 (3 oz) box of strawberry jello
- 1 (3 oz) box of berry blue jello
- 2 cups boiling water, divided
- 1 cup cold water, divided
- 2 containers of your favorite white frosting
- Red, white, and blue sprinkles
Simple ingredients make these super easy to make- here’s how.
How to Make Jello Poke Cupcakes
1. Prepare your cupcakes, according to the box directions, and allow them to cool completely.
2. Once cupcakes have cooled, use a paper straw to poke 5-6 holes about halfway through each cupcake.
3. Next, prepare your red and blue jello. Boil 1 cup of water. Remove from the heat and whisk in strawberry jello mix. Stir until dissolved. Add 1/2 cup cold water, and stir to combine. Set aside. Boil the 2nd cup of water. Remove from the heat and whisk in berry blue jello, until dissolved. Add 1/2 cup cold water, and stir. Carefully pour Jello over cupcake holes. You may want to use a dropper, or a glass measuring cup with a spout. There’s also my straw method that I used for this 4th of July Poke Cake recipe. You want to keep the blue and red separate, because if they run together too much you’ll get purple jello.
4. Move the cupcakes to the refrigerator to chill overnight, or for at least 6 hours. This will give the Jello time to set. This part of the process is important, because the texture won’t be quite right without letting the Jello set. Trust me!
5. Once cupcakes have chilled, pipe your favorite white frosting onto the cakes! We love disposable Wilton piping bags and frosting tips.
6. Finally, add cute patriotic sprinkles for super fun and festive 4th of July Jello Poke Cake Cupcakes!
Check out how the Jello looks inside the cupcakes. This is so much fun. This definitely reminds me of fireworks.
