Irish Mule Recipe
I have a super fun cocktail to share with you today. You are going to love this fantastic Irish Mule recipe. If you are a fan of the Moscow Mule or any other mule variations, this drink will be right up your alley for St. Patrick’s Day.
First, let’s answer a few questions.
What is an Irish Mule made of?
An Irish Mule has similar ingredients to the classic Moscow Mule cocktail- including ginger beer and fresh lime juice, but the main difference is that it uses Irish whiskey instead of vodka. We used Jameson Irish whiskey, and as such, could also call this a Jameson Mule or Dublin Mule.
Why is it called a Mule cocktail?
If you’ve ever had a Moscow Mule, or an Irish Mule, you’ll know why. The ginger beer in these drinks give them a serious kick! We have been loving Fever Tree ginger beer in our Mule cocktails lately.
Now, here’s how to make an Irish Mule. It is a fun twist with a bit of spice that is the perfect cocktail recipe for Saint Patrick’s Day.
Irish Mule Recipe Ingredients
- About 1 cup of ice
- 2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
- 6 ounces of ginger beer
- 1 ounce of fresh lime juice (it must be fresh, trust us you do not want to use bottled lime juice for this drink)
- A fresh mint sprig, and a fresh lime wheel or lime wedge for garnish.
You’ll need your copper mule mug, of course.
Directions:
Step 1: Fill your copper mug with ice. Pour in Irish whiskey, lime juice, and ginger beer.
Step 2: Use a bar spoon or cocktail spoon to give this drink a good stir.
Step 3: Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and your choice of lime slice.
Can you substitute Ginger Ale for the Ginger Beer in a mule?
No, the ginger beer really makes the flavor of these drinks. Don’t skimp, just go ahead and grab yourself a small 4 pack of ginger beer if you plan to make these. We promise, it is such a refreshing cocktail, and it’s just not the same without it.
This is seriously a great drink, and will probably be my go-to this year for St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a fun Irish twist on the Moscow Mule and we love the spicy ginger beer flavor mixed with fresh citrus and good old Irish whiskey. Serve a bunch at your St. Patrick’s Day party, or just enjoy your own, it is the perfect drink.
