This Caramel Apple Jello Shots Recipe combines two our our favorite things- jello shots and caramel apples! Nothing says Fall quite like caramel apples. So, we really wanted to turn them into little jello treats, and here’s how we did it! These essentially take our green apple jello shots, and top them with delicious caramel. We also used Smirnoff kissed caramel vodka to make them! These are sure to be a hit at your next Halloween party.

These caramel apple jello shots with caramel vodka are just one of our many jello shots that are perfect for Halloween and Fall!

Caramel Apple Jello Shot Ingredients

You’ll need just a few ingredients-

  • 1 (3.9 oz.) box of Sonic green apple gelatin powder
  • 2 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup caramel vodka
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 16 individually wrapped caramels (these are totally optional but definitely CUTE)
  • 16 (2 oz.) plastic cups

For equipment, you’ll need a muffin tin or baking pan to place the shots onto for moving them to the refrigerator easily. You’ll also need a medium saucepan, a measuring cup, and a whisk. We make them right on the stove top, and that’s all for this easy recipe.

The caramel vodka really brings some good caramel-y flavor to these shots, but of course you can use any vodka you have on hand. The caramel sauce on top will help add plenty of caramel to our green apple jello.

Here’s how to make this Caramel Apple Jello Shots recipe-

Caramel Apple Jello Shot Directions

1. Place your plastic cups onto a shallow baking pan, cookie sheet, or into the cups of a muffin pan, and set aside.

2. In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup water to a boil. Remove from the heat and sprinkle in green apple jello mix. Whisk until dissolved.

3. Add 1 cup of water and 1 cup vodka.

4. Divide the jello mixture evenly between your plastic cups, making sure to leave enough room at the top for a small layer of caramel sauce.

5. Move the jello shots to the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours.

6. Before serving, top with about 1-2 tablespoons of caramel sauce. Then, unwrap your caramels and top each one with a chewy caramel. Enjoy!

Caramel Apple Jello Shots Recipe

Your jello shots may set sooner, you’ll just have to check them. If you are making these for a party, though, it’s best to plan ahead. If you want to make these the night before, just wait until party time to add the caramel sauce and caramels on top. These are party friendly and easy to eat in their little individual serving plastic cups, but you could also serve them with a little miniature spoon for the proper folks. Each shot contains about 1/2 oz. of liquor, so these won’t get you too tipsy, but they sure are fun. You could try upping the liquor content, but I typically try to stick to 1 cup for a recipe this size so that they set up properly. You can also double (or triple) this recipe to serve even more jello shots!

Substitutions & Tips:

  • We love the caramel flavor, but you can swap the caramel vodka for another flavor liquor if you prefer. You could swap the amount completely for Crown Royal Apple whiskey or an apple vodka, or you could use half caramel vodka and half sour apple pucker or other sour apple schnapps, or butterscotch schnapps.

The sour apple and creamy caramel flavor combination is so good in these delicious shots. They make the perfect Fall jello shots. They are such a fun twist, a little sour, but super sweet and all of the caramel, just like if we were having a caramel apple from a carnival. These will be a great addition to your next party, adults only of course. Though, you could omit any alcohol for a fun kid friendly version, too.

Caramel Apple Jello Shot FAQs

Where can I buy plastic shot glasses?

These 2 oz. plastic cups can be bought off of Amazon, or at your local Walmart.

I can’t find sonic green apple jello!

Any green apple jello will work, you’ll just have to adjust the liquid amounts to match the total that’s required on the box directions. Jolly rancher green apple gelatin is a great option, but any green apple will do!

How to make Caramel Apple Jello Shots inside of apples

To do this, simply cut a few granny smith apples in half. Use a melon baller to scoop out the insides of the apples, leaving a small layer of apple behind to hold up the structure. Place the hollowed apples into the cups of a muffin tin to hold them steady, and pour your jello mixture into the apples. Move them to the refrigerator to set the jello. Skip the caramel sauce on this version, or, after the jello has set, you could dip these into a caramel that would harden up more than our caramel sauce.

How long does it take jello shots to set?

It takes about 2-3 hours for the jello to set when you make jello shots. Just watch for them to lose some of their jiggle and they are ready to enjoy.

How early can you make jello shots?

You can make these 24-48 hours in advance and they’ll be just fine. Just wait until you are ready to serve them to add any toppings. These cups we used even come with lids for your jello shots!
